Medical Statistics has a long record in Slovakia. Already in 1939 first statistical data regarding health status of the inhabitants started to be collected. In following years (since 1948) also data about the number of medical institutions, their activities and number of employees have been added. Currently, informatization and electronization help us to create supporting tool to improve timeliness and quality of relevant information providing, offered for use of the wide public.
We are creating information systems leading to further decrease of reporting units’ (providers of the basic data for our statistical research) administration load. Our ongoing activity is to improve outputs quality in the field of health and medical statistics, which is integral part of the policy in health branch and is producing valuable information in the area of understanding the needs of provided healthcare, its quality and support of relevant interventions rating.
